Heidi (Heidrun) Fritze is the acting Chief of the Berlin Representation Office for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), bringing over a decade of high-level experience within and alongside the UN system. In her current capacity, as well as in her previous role as Policy and Advocacy Specialist, she focuses on deepening Germany’s political and financial commitments, fostering strategic dialogue with key German stakeholders, and positioning UNFPA as a partner of choice. Previously, she served as an Adviser and Deputy Team Lead at GIZ, where she supervised project advisory functions for German cooperation with the United Nations. Her extensive experience with UNFPA also includes serving as a Technical Analyst for Youth and Adolescents' SRHR in Bangkok, working as New York-based Programme Specialist focused on UN Development System Reforms, and a short country-level deployment in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina. Prior to these roles, she worked on intergovernmental affairs with the UN Volunteers Programme in New York and served as a Youth Advisor for the United Nations Association in Berlin.
Heidi holds a Joint Master’s degree in International Relations from Free University Berlin, Humboldt University Berlin, and the University of Potsdam, including academic semesters in Australia and Russia. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in European Studies from the University of Magdeburg, with an exchange semester in France. She is multilingual, speaking German, English, and Dutch and intermediate French.
